Accenture reports rising profits and record bookings
 
 Accenture has reported a
rise in quarterly profit
and forecasts further
growth in the year
ahead. The company
reported strong
financial results for
the fourth quarter and
record results for the
full 2008 fiscal year,
ended 31 August, 2008,
including its
highest-ever annual
revenues and bookings.
 
   
   For the fourth
quarter, net revenues
were $6bn, compared with
$5.11bn for the same
period in 2007. Diluted
earnings per share for
the quarter were $0.67,
compared with $0.50 last
year, an increase of
35%.
  
   Consulting net
revenues were $3.61bn,
 
  
   
 
 
 
 
 
 
 record. This reflects an
8% foreign-currency lift
from the new bookings
reported in the fourth
quarter last year.
Consulting new bookings
were $3.63bn, making up
nearly half (47%) of the
total.
  
   For the full fiscal
year, Accenture’s net
revenues hit a record
$23.39bn, compared with
 
 $19.7bn for fiscal 2007.
New bookings for the
full fiscal year were a
record $26.79bn,
representing an increase
of 22% in US dollars and
15% in local currency
over fiscal 2007. And
the future looks good
too. The company
forecasts net revenue
growth in the next
fiscal year of 9% to
12%.

PwC awards funds to local charities
 
 This year
PricewaterhouseCoopers
UK’s Volunteering
Excellence Awards
distributed over £35,000
to 10 charities and
voluntary organisations,
recognising their work,
and the extraordinary
commitment of the firm’s
employees who
volunteered with them.
  
   The funds are the
latest in an 11-year
programme which has seen
£311,000 distributed via
PwC employee volunteers
who share their skills
and expertise with
community programmes
throughout the UK.
  
   The organisations –
 
 based in the Midlands,
North of England,
Scotland, Northern
Ireland, London and the
South East – work across
the arts, animal
welfare, first aid,
education, sport, and
children’s outreach.
  
   PwC employees provide
a variety of voluntary
support ranging from
management and fund
raising, to painting,
driving and team
leading. The average
length of voluntary
service of the winning
employees was four
years, with some over 10
years. Four £5,000
awards and six £2,500
awards will be put
 
  
   
 
 
 live and work in. These
awards demonstrate the
extraordinary dedication
and commitment of our
people, and the
important work these
organisations do at a
local level.”
  
   Applications to the
awards scheme came from
all over PwC UK
operations. Nearly
£45,000 of funds were
distributed through the
firm’s standard award
scheme that recognises
short-term voluntary
commitments. Of those,
30 were nominated for
Volunteering Excellence
Awards, which
demonstrate
extraordinary
 
 contributions from
volunteers through one
or more of the following
areas: sustained
involvement, leadership,
innovative use of skills
and community impact.
  
   PwC was recently
awarded the
CommunityMark in
recognition of the
firm’s pioneering
commitment to and
activities in
communities throughout
the UK. In addition, the
firm’s community
partners recognised
PricewaterhouseCoopers
as being best in class
in community programmes.
 
 towards a range of
schemes and initiatives
including replacing play
equipment, funding a
children’s experience
visit to the US,
refurbishment funds and
educational programmes.
