PCG offers freelancers passport to work

 The Professional
Contractors Group (PCG),
which promotes the
interests of
freelancers, is to offer
its members a background
checking service through
an agreement with
specialist firm
BackgroundChecking.com.

    The new scheme,
called PCG (QP) - for
"Quality People" -
allows members to have
their qualifications,
work experience and
references independently
verified to BS7858
standard.
   With increasing

 pressure from regulators
and legislation,
employers and agencies
are taking more care
about checking the
backgrounds not only of
potential employees but
also of freelance
contractors and
consultants, PCG said.

    The vetting process
can mean that freelance
contractors experience
delays in starting on a
new project or
assignment. The PCG (QP)
scheme seeks to overcome
this obstacle by
providing candidates
with a rolling

 three-year "passport",
once their curriculum
vitae has been
thoroughly checked to
BS7858 level and
certified.
