2005 Recruitment Channel Survey ---
Internet Recruitment Generates Over Half Of All Consultancy Applications

 For the fourth year
running, internet job
boards have dominated
application generation
in management
consultancy. Multi
client sites and
corporate job boards
have over 50% share of
applications. With so
many adverts on job
boards now driving
applicants back to the
corporate job board,
this job site +
corporate site combo
looks to be the clear
winner in the channel
wars.
   That said, e-mail
based application
systems still have a
grip, despite all the
problems with publishing
e-mail addresses either
in the press or as links
on job adverts.

 another poor year with
only 14.7% share of
applications. Gone are
the days when the Sunday
Times would be thick
with consultancy
opportunities. Given the
much higher cost of
reaching candidates by
this channel, further
expenditure here, for
most advertisers, looks
questionable.
   Personal referral
remained the candidates
most favoured mechanism
of getting a new job.
However, it has a
limited channel capacity
as seen by its 13%
share. Investment by
firms in their alumni
networks have made a
major contribution to
growth in this channel.
However, most management
consultants simply don't
know enough similarly

 qualified friends and
acquaintances - who are
looking for a job - to
fill their employer's
candidate short lists.
   Direct applications
via agencies have
recovered from their
2002 low of 17% to
20.8%. Much of this
growth is due to the big
increase in search work
in 2004 as consultancies
sought to strengthen
their senior selling
teams. Agencies also
have a big role in
internet advertising
through their selection
arms. In fact most of
the absolute growth in
internet job advertising
that occurred in 2004
came from agencies.

2005 Recruitment Channel Survey ---
No Clear Winner Emerges For Best Corporate Job Site

 In the fragmented world
of management
consultancy it's hard to
get your corporate job
site to shine.
According to data from
the recruitment channel
survey, Accenture has
the best corporate job
site. However with just
2% of the total vote its
victory isn't
overwhelming. In fact
there is a long tail of
other corporate job
boards with nearly just
as many fans.
   One problem for the
corporate boards is how
to offer a decent range
of jobs. The average
management consultancy
firm may only have 20 or

% of votes for best corporate site

 so jobs available at any
moment. This makes it
hard to compete with the
multi client job sites
who would typically be
offering 500 positions.
If your typical
candidate only has 30
minutes at lunchtime to
look for jobs then the
multi client site will
look much more
attractive.
   Another problem for
the corporate job boards
is how to attract
visitors at the home
page to the job area.
Management consultancy
firm web sites have to
attract clients as well
as recruits. In these
times of higher client

 acquisition costs,
client oriented material
usually gets the lion's
share of page space.
The corporate job board
has to make do with a
link and an image.
   In recent months
however, recruiters have
been driving traffic
from the main multi
client job boards
directly to their
corporate job boards.
This allows them to get
past the tricky home
page problems and take
recruits directly to
relevant jobs. It also
allows them to manage
the application process
using their own systems.
