   Two awards for Hay
Group

   Global management
consultancy Hay Group
picked up the Human
Resources Award for
developing a
revenue-enhancing talent
management strategy for
BAE Systems, in addition
to the Change Management
in the Public Sector
Award for helping
Maidstone and Tunbridge
Wells NHS Trust to turn
around its leadership
and culture.
   Hay Group UK MD
Lesley Wilkin commented:
“It is a very proud
achievement to have won
two of the consultancy
industry’s top awards,
and a fitting reflection
of the excellent,
high-profile work of Hay
Group consultants.”

   Robust talent
management

   BAE Systems
traditionally works on
complex long-term
contracts with long-term
planning cycles, so a
structured and cutting
edge talent management
process was essential.
   Hay Group helped BAE

 Systems to develop a
robust executive
succession process,
identifying the roles
and people it needed to
be successful; assessing
executives against these
criteria; providing
external validation and
establishing effective
progress tracking; then
cascading this approach
throughout the
organisation.
   Sherief Hammady, a
Hay Group associate
director who led the
work, commented: “BAE
Systems now has a clear
understanding of which
leaders it will need to
deliver business
performance in the
future, and a structured
talent management
process for identifying
and developing these
people in time. I am
delighted that the hard
work of our team has
been recognised in this
award.”

   Leadership
turnaround

   Hay Group was called
in to help turn around
Maidstone and Tunbridge
Wells NHS Trust’s
leadership and culture,
following a damning

 infection control in the
South East; and is
meeting national targets
and standards on waiting
lists and A&E waiting
times. Patient care has
been dramatically
improved and its
underlying monthly
financial deficit has
been more than halved.
   “I am exceptionally
proud of our team’s work
on this project, as well
as the rightful
recognition this award
brings for the success
of the efforts made by
the leaders and staff of
the hospital itself.”

   Management
consultants and their
clients raise over
£4,000 for homeless
charity

   Management
consultants and their
clients at the 14th
annual MCA Management
Awards have raised
£4,076 – a record amount
– for homeless
children’s charity
Depaul UK.

   Depaul UK is the
largest charity for
young homeless people in
the UK. It has helped
over 45,000 people since

 being founded in 1989
and continues to work
with over 3,500 young
people a year.

   Chief executive of
the Management
Consultancies
Association, Alan
Leaman, said: “Depaul UK
carries out vital work
to help vulnerable
children and young
people and we are
delighted to have raised
this money. Our thanks
go to our guests at the
Management Awards who
gave so generously.”

   Paul Marriott, chief
executive of Depaul UK,
said: “The support and
commitment of the MCA
and the consultancy
industry have been vital
for us. Their help means
that we can continue to
have a positive impact
on the lives of
vulnerable and homeless
young people. We are
deeply grateful for
their support and look
forward to working with
them in the years
ahead.”

 report in 2007, which
criticised the Trust for
its failure to deal
adequately with
outbreaks of Clostridium
Difficile.
   Hay Group proposed a
measurable leadership
development programme
integrated with
organisational
development plans, to
clarify issues and
priorities, engage
leaders with the
strategy and change
their behaviour.

   By emphasising
leadership impact over
managerial skills, and
team over individual
performance, the
programme helped
transform the hospital’s
culture, right down to
ward level.

   Phil Kenmore,
director at Hay Group,
commented: “A year on,
the Trust now has one of
