| | PricewaterhouseCoopers took home three awards from the recent National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2009. Two of the awards were voted on and determined exclusively by students – the ‘most popular graduate recruiter in accountancy and professional services’ and ‘best student marketing campaign for organisations recruiting more than 50 graduates a year’. The third award was voted by university careers services, and this award recognises best practice in graduate recruitment – PwC’s outstanding contribution to developing employability and skills in the curriculum was particularly highlighted. The awards follow several accolades already achieved in the graduate recruitment area in 2009.
PwC was recently awarded both top accountancy and top finance sector employer in the UK’s Top Graduate Employer awards for 2009 as voted by over 16,000 students. It is the 10th year in a row the firm has won the top accountancy award, and the first time to achieve the finance sector prize.

The firm is recruiting 1,000 graduates for full-time positions starting in April, September and October 2009. Competition for places has increased, with a 38% increase to date this year in applications to the full time programme and a 30% increase to the firm’s internship programme.
James Chalmers, partner, head of strategy and talent, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, commented: “We’re delighted to have won these three awards and it’s particularly satisfying to have such support from students and the career service. Recruiting talent is not a switch you can flip on and off. We’re committed to graduate recruitment because we believe it’s a long term investment in the future of our business.”
Sonja Stockton, head of recruitment at PwC, said: “We recognised early on that this year would be tough for graduates. We launched the employability skills campaign because now, more than ever, students and employers need to

Most popular graduate recruiter – accountancy and professional services
This year the firm will recruit over 1,000 graduates and interns in the UK, on specialist and generalist training schemes. In challenging times the firm remains committed to providing graduates with opportunities in the accountancy and professional services sector.
Best student marketing campaign for organisations recruiting more than 50 graduates a year
The firm’s recruitment campaign – ‘Take F1VE’ – challenges students to think beyond their academic achievement to make themselves distinctive in their application to the firm and other employers. A booklet, online test tool and six films help students identify the skills and achievements they have gained to complement their academic achievement.

The AGCAS award for the outstanding contribution to developing employability and skills in the curriculum
PwC’s Employability Skills Campaign targets student and graduate job seekers, and was launched in September 2008.
The firm’s online Employability Clinic including a test tool, and employability films, has been viewed by over 38,000 people in six months, equivalent to one in 10 of the 2008 graduate population. The six films demonstrate how critical business skills can be developed in part-time jobs, sport and volunteering. In addition, the employability skills quiz was taken by over 3,500 people and the employability guide downloaded by 10,000 people.

“The employability skills campaign helps students examine how their non-academic skills, combined with a good-quality degree can make their application and experience distinctive in a very competitive job market.
“We’re delighted students have voted us the top graduate employer because we work hard to provide a very distinctive, challenging and rewarding programme and get out on campus to get them involved early on. This year’s campaign is no different, and is proving so successful because, in a tough economic environment for graduates, we’re continuing to provide great opportunities and help them personally make the most of the skills they have in their applications for work."
