| What will 2012 have in store for consulting candidates? |

| | For those trying to secure a new consulting job, 2011 has been a rollercoaster ride. As our annual report predicted early in the year, there was a significant rebound in hiring after two and a half years in which the consultancy recruitment market had been in the doldrums.
Historically that report ‒ based on an anonymous annual survey of candidatesand a separate survey of consulting recruiters’ hiring intentions ‒ has been a very accurate predictor of activity in the following year. In 2011, however, the market

The question on everyone’s lips is how much things will improve in 2012? A report to be published by Top-Consultant.com early in the New Year will aim to answer this question – and provide both recruiters and candidates with the definitive view on what we can expect from the consulting hiring market in 2012. Top-Consultant director Tony Restell commented: “Certainly our view on 2011 is that consulting firms have been engaged in what could be described as ‘just in time’ recruiting. Most hiring has been for specific positions related to specific project wins ‒ and so any changes in a firm’s confidence about winning projects has immediately fed through into hiring activity

| | levels. Hence when market confidence has taken a knock ‒ as it has done just recently ‒ the impact on hiring activity has been both significant and sudden. Equally though, when confidence returns we expect hiring activity to be reinstated very quickly and so volatility may be the defining word for 2012 as hiring activity mirrors market headlines.”
With the candidate and recruiter surveys now underway, Top-Consultant expects to publish a revised set of projections for the consulting market early this year.
