Capita to team up with Birmingham City Council

 Capita has been named
"preferred strategic
partner" by Birmingham
City Council and is
negotiating the terms of
a 10-year deal which
envisions the creation
of a joint venture to
provide IT and business
services to the council.
   The deal includes an
initial IT and
communications services
deal worth £424m. 450
internal staff of the
largest local authority

 alongside Capita on the
project.
   The council says it
is aiming to save £1bn
as a result of a
projected 15% increase
in productivity through
the partnership.
   While the council has
calculated that it will
spend £420m-plus on IT
services over the next
10 years, it expects the
figure to rise as IT
will play a growing role
in the business

 transformation of the
council.
   Capita will start
work on the contract
next April. Negotiations
with trade unions at the
council are on-going.
The deal has to be
ratified by the
council's cabinet later
this month.
   The council has
existing contracts with
IT services vendors
ITnet and Specialist
Computer Centre for

 server management and
desktop support
respectively. Once the
deal is signed, the
management of these
contracts will be
transferred to Capita.
   Capita competed
against IBM Global
Services in the final
stages of bidding, after
the council had earlier
rejected bids from EDS
and Specialist Computer
Centre.

 in Europe will be
transferred to the
venture, which will be
called the Service
Birmingham Partnership
and will be
majority-owned by
Capita.
   Consulting firm Axon
Group Plc will work

Accenture to provide training and purchasing services to Bank of Ireland

 Bank of Ireland has
appointed Accenture as
the future supplier of
some of the Group's
training and purchasing
services, a further step
in the bank's
transformation programme
aimed at annual costs
reduction of 120m euros
over the next four
years.

    The seven-year
agreement with Accenture
will result in savings
of more than 20m euros
per year. It is expected
that the new services
will be implemented
within a number of
months.
   Alongside the
agreement a new HR
structure will be

 implemented over the
coming months and will
transform and streamline
the provision of HR
services to the
business.
   BoI announced its
transformation programme
in March of this year
and, at its interim
results announcement on
24 November, the bank

 expressed confidence in
achieving the first year
savings target of 30m
euros.
   BoI will work closely
with its employees and
Accenture over the
coming months to ensure
a smooth transition of
these services. In all
approximately 180
employees are affected

 by this agreement. They
will either be retained
within the training and
purchasing areas,
transfer to Accenture,
be redeployed within
Bank of Ireland or have
an option for voluntary
redundancy.
