Changing the world with many little steps

   Rather, Gillham
believes that the
difference - whatever it
is - needs to be built
into the
consultant-client
relationship.
   “It’s in the way you
say it,” he says. “If
people see that it’s
part of the fabric of
your company, that
you’re not just giving
something away - that’s
when you start creating
change. What I want is
for companies to go on a
journey.”
   Consultants are in a
unique position to help
with this journey
because of the multiple
clients they interact
with - and the choices
they make along the way.

    “Consultants need to
influence more in the
workplace and be more
selective in whom they
work for,” he says. “Bad
behaviours in the
workplace lead to more
bad behaviours, so
taking an ethical stance
as a consultant is
important. Consultants
work at the heart of
these companies, so they
can influence a
different view of what
money can be used to
do.”
   This has a very
positive aspect -
Gillham says that he has
been amazed at how
“green” some of his
clients in the energy
space are.
   “Some of them have
been doing this for
years; companies like
this understand what’s
going on, but is there a

 way of spreading the
news?” he says. “It’s
got to be about people
spreading the news –
only that can create a
better world.”
   Gillham is now
looking to expand his
leadership team and
create a sustainable
consultancy that can
organise around this
agenda.
   “We want to offer
solutions that help our
clients change but also
have an agenda that
helps the world be a
better place,” he says.
“I’m not trying to be a
crusader, just trying to
make a small difference
- I’m very positive
about the idea that the
world can become a
better place through
many people making
little steps.”
