Accenture targets 2700 new hires following explosive growth in UK market

 Accenture this week
reaffirmed its strong
growth expectations for
the UK market with the
launch of a major new
careers initiative that
will see the company
hire 2,700 new
consultants this year.
March 2005 has been
dubbed Accenture's
"careers month" and will
see the firm run a

booming recruitment
markets. They are costly
and time-consuming to
organise, so often one
of the first things to
be dropped from a
recruitment strategy
during a downturn. In a
tighter candidate
market, however, meeting
prospective candidates
face-to-face can prove a
very successful

 strategy.
   So the return of the
careers event is
certainly a welcome
development for all
those hoping the boom
years are back again.
It's certainly striking
that Accenture has
chosen to organise five
major events in the
space of a month - a
huge undertaking and a
tangible sign that the

 mood in the UK
consulting market has
well and truly turned.
The events are not small
affairs either - the
finale will be a careers
event on board the
London Eye, with several
hundred candidates and
consultants expected to
be in attendance.

   Commenting on his
role at the MCA, Bailey

 said: "Over the past two
years, the MCA has
teamed with relevant
government functions to
create a deeper two-way
understanding of each
other which has led to
greater success in
public sector
initiatives. This year,
under my presidency, we
intend adding to this by
launching an initiative
to create stronger links

 with the private sector,
via trade associations
and regulators as well
as directly with FTSE

unlisted organisations."
   Bailey will be

Accenture: Join GACT or Operating Group?

 "Hey there, I have been
offered a place with
Accenture as an Analyst
and have a computer
science degree and
business MSc. I have

 asked to be put in
operating group but feel
I'm also suited to GACT
based on my skills and
experience. I was
advised against GACT by

 a current employee since
there could be a lot of
testing initially. Is it
possible to be assigned
some technical roles
through an operating

 group and do you think
career development is
better in one than
another. Look forward to
your responses as I'm in
a bit of a dilemma!

 Thanks, Dave."

Merger of Siemens Business Services and Atos Origin on the cards?

 There's been
considerable media
coverage these last 2
weeks regarding a
possible merger of the
IT services arm of
Siemens (Siemens
Business Services) with

 French rival Atos
Origin. German
investment bank Sal.
Oppenheim issued a
research note claiming
that Siemens is in
advanced negotiations
with Atos Origin. The

 CEO of Siemens remarked
on a conference call
that all strategic
options for the future
of the SBS unit are
being considered, whilst
Atos Origin have refused
to comment on the market

 speculation - both of
which are adding fuel to
the flames. Analysts
believe there is merit
in the deal as Atos
Origin currently has
only a modest presence
in the German market but

 strategically is looking
to expand in Benelux,
the U.K. and Germany.
